What is delivered as a single project here?
Structured cabling, fibre backbone across sites, centralised Wi-Fi, firewall and network security, CCTV and surveillance, and command-centre and PABX communications — designed and installed as one delivery. Splitting these across vendors is what produces a command centre whose video wall works and whose network cannot carry the streams.
Why do command centres underperform?
Because they are procured as a room. A command centre is a network project with a room attached: camera placement, backhaul capacity, storage retention and who is on shift determine whether it produces anything. A video wall with no staffed process behind it displays footage that nobody acts on.
How long should structured cabling last?
Cabling outlives most of the equipment attached to it, which is why the specification matters more at purchase than it appears to. Design for the bandwidth expected at the end of the cable's life rather than today's requirement, and label and document it — undocumented cabling costs more in fault-finding than the saving on installation.
Can existing CCTV be extended rather than replaced?
Often yes, where the cameras support a standard streaming protocol and the recording platform can accept them. The limiting factors are usually storage retention and network capacity rather than the cameras themselves. An assessment of the current estate establishes what can be kept before anything new is specified.
Who is responsible when a fault spans cabling and configuration?
Design and installation are delivered as one scope rather than a design handed to a separate contractor, which is exactly where responsibility for a cross-boundary fault is normally lost. One delivery means one party to call when the symptom is 'the cameras drop at peak'.
